Remakes and adaptations had been an in thing in Priyan’s filmi career. The director had remade at least a dozen of Malayalam films into Hindi, of which Hera Pheri, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhag, Hulchul and Bhool Bhulaiya has reaped rich dividends to him, emerging as big hits of the time. And then came the offbeat realistic movie ‘Kanchivaram’ which won national awards and even changed the image of the director who then gave lengthy interviews about his sorrows on branding him as a remake director.
But Priyan is back to his favourites again by starting his work on another remake movie from Malayalam into Hindi. This time Priyan's big hit of 1989 ‘Vellanakalude Naadu' written by Sreenivasan will be made in Hindi with Akshay Kumar as the hero. The movie will also become a launch pad for south Indian actress Trisha, who was waiting for a long time for a big movie in Bollywood. Titled as ‘Khatta Meetha’, Priyan has already started his works on this movie.
